"GAZ group" is included in the list of strategic enterprises of the Russian Federation in the part of the holding "Russian machines", which is one of Russia's largest diversified industrial group "Basic Element". The holding "Russian Machines" was also included on the list in 2008 with a lookup link including OAO GAZ. In 2015, the Ministry of economic development of the Russian Federation adopted a decision on inclusion in the list vertically integrated holdings without clarifying references to the company in their composition, so as not to overload the list.

According to the methodology published on the website of the Ministry of economic development, the list includes "legal persons within the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation, which have a significant effect on the formation of GDP, employment and social stability and member of the industrial group holding structure, vertically integrated companies in the list specifies the name of the management company or the parent organization of the group)".

Thus, in the approved by the Government of the Russian Federation the list contains the name of the parent organization of "GAZ Group" holding "Russian Machines".

"GAZ group" meets all the criteria established by the Ministry of economic development of Russia for the selection of strategic enterprises: such as the presence of technological potential, importance for maintaining the infrastructure and production chains, the impact on social stability, the implementation of promising investment projects.

On quantitative criteria, such as headcount, revenue, amount of taxes paid to the budgets of all levels, "GAZ Group" is exceed established by the Ministry of economic development lows.

Currently, "GAZ Group" is actively working with industry crisis commissions of the Government of the Russian Federation and participates in the monitoring of socio-economic status of strategic enterprises, conducted by the Ministry of industry and trade of the Russian Federation.
