Britain's decision about leaving the EU (Brexit) will have a negative impact on the global fish trade, the report says the food and agriculture organization of the United Nations (FAO). United Kingdom is the leading exporter of salmon and is among the ten largest importers of fish and fish products in the world.

"Brexit may lead to a decrease in trade of seafood, especially in the foreseeable future, but also in the long term because of the complications of access to British exporters to the EU market", — said the Deputy Director of the FAO fisheries Audun LEM.

In 2015, world exports of fish decreased by ten percent, to $135 billion, a decrease was observed for the first time since the financial crisis and the recession in 2009 because of the weakness of the economy in Russia and Brazil. However, fish consumption per capita in the world for the first time exceeded 20 kg per year, according to the FAO. The index of fish prices, calculated by the FAO decreased by ten percent.
