The expert group of the world trade organization (WTO) ruled that Russia's ban on imports of live pigs, pork and other pig products from the EU is illegal from the point of view of international trade rules, said the EU delegation in Russia.

According to experts of the WTO, the ban on imports of European pork are not based on relevant international standards and violates the rules of the WTO agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary standards.

Appeal the report of the expert group within 60 days. If the appeal is not submitted within the specified time, the report was adopted, and Russia will have to implement the recommendations, the report says.

The Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a ban on exports of pigs, pork and certain pig products from the EU in early 2014 due to cases of African swine fever into the EU territory close to the border with Belarus.

In April of the same year, the EU began proceedings to contest in the WTO the Russian ban on exports. According to the EU closed its market to European pork, Russia has cut nearly 25% of pork exports from the European Union. In 2013, the EU has put to Russia of pork and 1.4 billion euros. The ban has led to falling prices and a glut of pork the EU market.

The press service of the Ministry of economic development in response to the decision said that the Russian side "does not agree with the conclusions, because they are not justified and unfair".
