After the lifting of the ban on the import of Turkish fruit in Russia have considerably decreased the price of lemons and oranges. According to official statistics, they fell to 11-28%, retailers also record a reduction to 25%. The decline in prices can be explained by the low price of Turkish fruit and increasing competition in the market.

According to the Unified interdepartmental information-statistical system (EMISS), the average cost of a kilogram of oranges in the first two months of the year decreased by 11% from 97 to 86 rubles and 91 to 82 rubles in January and February respectively. Even more, according EMISS, lemons fell by 21% in January and 28% in February. In the first month of the last year their average price was $ 153 rubles per 1 kg, and 121 rouble. In February of this year, the lemons were sold on average for 124 rubles per 1 kg, and the year before – 172 of the ruble.

According to the President of the National fruit and vegetable Alliance of Sergei Korolev, the prices for citrus have fallen in connection with the start of their supplies from Turkey. We will remind, the ban on the importation of citrus fruit from the Republic of Turkey was cancelled by the Russian government in October.

However, he added that lower prices for stone fruit (peaches, apricots, plums) can also be expected. While it did not happen due to the fact that in Turkey, these fruits are not yet ripe.

According to the Produce of the Union, prior to the embargo Turkey was the largest supplier of lemons, oranges and tangerines in Russia in 2015 the share of the Turks had about 35% of import of citrus. Also among the major suppliers were and still are Egypt, Israel, Morocco and Syria. The share of Russian producers accounts for less than 1% of the market citrus.
