FAO expects growth in global meat production
World production of meat in live weight in the next nine years will increase by 13% to 353 million tonnes, data from the market survey, FAO of the UN

The growth is generated by developing countries at the expense of increase of efficiency of use and forage production. The US, China, Brazil and 28 countries of the EU, which, according to the report, will provide a 75% increase.

The analysts noted that in absolute terms, total production growth in them is not more than 20% of the same indicator in developing countries. The reason for the report called the development of urbanization and rapid population growth. Also in General, the growth will be 7% less than in the previous 10 years, when it was 20%.

Of the sub-sectors the highest growth is expected for poultry production, which will represent about 45% of the total increase. By 2026, its production will increase by 16% from the average for the prior three years – until of 131.6 million tonnes (previously 113,9 million tonnes).

The share of developed countries will have to 52,8 million tons (+11%), developing – 78,8 million tons (+19%). The growth in demand will occur as producers and consumers. Reasons the review is called the low prices and low production costs. It is also noted that the most active growth is expected in Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Ukraine and in other countries with an excess of forage.

Analysts also expect the growth of beef production to 76.3 million tonnes or 11%. While in developing countries it will grow by 16%. 75% success rate will provide Brazil, Mexico, Pakistan and India. In particular, in the last country it will be due to increased milk production while others increase the productivity of livestock through a variety of drugs. In developed countries growth will be 5%. The main contribution of the USA due to the growing population up to 2021, but then its numbers will fall again. Production of beef will be reduced in European countries and New Zealand, where more than two thirds of dairy cattle, and is expected to increase the productivity and the demand for meat.

In turn, the production of pork over the next decade will slow down: up to 9% growth from the average in 2014-2016. In exact figures it will amount to 127.5 million tons. According to experts, China "will overcome the fall in 2016" and will be released by 4.6 million tons or 44% of the world growth. Also, analysts expect the leaders of Russia, USA, Vietnam, Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines.

Due to population growth, per capita meat consumption to 2026 will rise slightly – from 34.1 to 34.6 kg/year. The share of poultry meat will increase by one percent to 37.3%. The share of beef will remain at the level of 21,7-21,8%. The consumption of pork will fall from 37.2 to 36.1%.
