In 2017, the country's farmers have collected a record harvest not only crops and wheat, but also sugar beet. The harvest is allowed to fully load the existing production capacities of the processing industry.

Produced volumes of sugar are enough to ensure the domestic consumption of the population and to significant increases in exports.

According to preliminary results 2017 sugar beet is dug out from an area of 1.2 million hectares, which is 9% more than in 2016. Dug out of 48.2 million tonnes, which ensured full capacity utilization 31 of the existing plant for processing of sugar beet. Gross harvest of sugar beet by the end of 2017 increased by 15% in comparison with the average harvest for the period 2012-2016 and 3,4 times in comparison with 2000.

Over the last 5 months of 2017 processed 43.7 million tons of sugar beet. The processing industry made of 6.18 million tonnes of sugar, which is 6.9% higher than the same date in 2016. In comparison with 2000 the volume of production of sugar increased by 4 times.

For the period January-November of 2017, according to the FCS of Russia, exported 434.3 thousand tons of sugar, which is 5.8 times more than in the same period a year earlier (in 2016 74.2 thousand tons). The main importers are the CIS countries, Georgia, Egypt, Serbia, Syria, Mongolia.

On the background of the recorded increase its own production, the import of sugar decreased by almost 2 times and amounted to 42.7 thousand tonnes.
