UK in 2015/16 exported 2.85 million tons of wheat, which is the highest seasonal volume of exports over the last 7 years, according to the News Agency Grain Online with reference to AHDB Cereals.

UK exported 1.99 million tons of barley (105 thousand tons in June). This is the highest export level since 1996/97, when the external supply was 2.1 million tons.

Strong completion of the export season contributed to the weakening of the pound sterling, which in turn was the result of a Brexit - a referendum on a British exit from the European Union. In June, the pound fell against the U.S. dollar by 6-7%.

Experts expect that the high rate of export of British grain will continue in the 2016/17 season.
