In early October, Rosstat reported on the September inflation dynamics in Russia. According to the statistical service, last month's 15.7% rise in prices of oranges, by 15.5% more expensive cucumbers. Overall, inflation in September was 0.2% in monthly terms, food prices declined by 0.1%. Several media outlets attributed the large increase in the price of oranges by the fact that in Russia there is a deficit.

"Specifically for oranges and cucumbers we don't, our priority is milk, bread, butter, meat, chicken," said Andrei Tsyganov.

He noted that the price growth for cucumber is quite clear – cucumbers in the winter, don't grow, except for greenhouses, where they are more expensive than outdoors.

"I can say one thing, in any case, this growth is firstly seasonal and secondly, is not critical for the consumer", he concluded.
