The upward trend of imports is expected to last, at least until the end of the current year

According to local traders, the increase in the price of rice contributed to the greater demand for wheat flour. Private processors and traders in the current circumstances, it is much cheaper to buy flour than rice. Furthermore, if you previously rice dishes eaten three times a day, now only once.

It is also reported that in January-June 2017 Bangladesh imported 5.8 million tons of wheat, making it one of the largest importers of grain for the specified period.

The grain was purchased mainly from the black sea region, in particular, it is reported that the government had purchased 200 thousand tons of wheat within the framework of intergovernmental deals with Russia worth $252 million, which allowed the latter to circumvent the U.S. in world exports of the grain.

In addition, a small supply of high-quality grain were also from Australia and Canada.
