Europe does not compensate for Latvian producers and processors of milk by the Russian embargo damage in full. This was stated today by the head of delegation of the European Commission (EC) in the Republic of Inna steinbuka.

Инна Штейнбука

"Europe is ready to provide financing, but the rest of the amount is unlikely. It will be a partial payment, not the full", - she said in the broadcast local TV channel LNT.

The volume of imports of Latvian products subject to the sanctions in Russia by the end of 2013 amounted to € 50 million, she said. Milk and dairy products occupy in the order of 24 million euros. The government of Latvia intends to cover losses in the amount of 6 million euros, which is about a quarter of the losses to the dairy industry.

The European Commission is at present considering two types of support affected the Russian embargo European Milkmen.

"The first type are short - term assistance, which provides funds for intervention in the market - purchases of milk powder and butter. Long-term care involves subsidies", said steinbuka.

"It's hard for me to compare Latvia to other countries-EU members affected by sanctions, each of them has its challenges, "she said.

August 7, Russia announced a complete ban on the export of beef, pork, vegetables and fruits, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and dairy products from the EU countries, Australia, Canada, Norway and the USA. This decision was a response to the sanctions that the West has imposed against Russia because of the events in Ukraine.

As stated earlier, Prime Minister of the Republic of Laimdota Straujuma, Russia imposed an embargo on food imports from the EU will pay Latvia loss of $ 55 million euros.
