Latvian milk producers affected by the Russian embargo, are preparing to participate in early December in protests in Brussels, organized by industry representatives from the Baltic countries and Finland. About this here today said the Chairman of the organization of farmers "Peasant Sejm" Juris Lazdins.

According to him, the Latvian milk producers were dissatisfied allocated by the European Commission (EC) the amount of compensation in the amount of €7.7 million

"We are deeply offended dedicated amount as €7.7 million, Latvia, compensate for only one penny with one liter of milk for a month and a half. As far as we know, prices have fallen by 30% - 6-7 cents per one liter of milk. The EC decided that compensation in the amount of one cent with one liter of milk will be sufficient for the Baltic countries due to the Russian embargo. Of course, we can't accept this decision in Europe. Therefore, Baltic farmers intend to take part in protests in early December in Brussels. We will also continue to negotiate with the Ministry of agriculture of Latvia about the need to increase the amount of compensation until you have found new markets and the price of milk is not stabilizing,"he said in the air of the Latvian television.

Lazdinis reminded that monthly losses Latvian milk producers due to the Russian embargo of approximately €8 million

"So dedicated EC compensate us will last only for a month and a half, and the total allocated compensation in the amount of €20 million in four months. Of course, according to our calculations, six months of active work should be enough for you to find new markets. Therefore, already in the spring of the situation should stabilize. But it is difficult to predict whether this will happen", he said.

Russia entered August 7, 2014 the package of measures on sanctions the United States, Australia, Canada, European Union and Norway. Contractee represent a prohibition for a period of one year for import to Russia from these countries fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products.

As stated earlier, Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma, Russia imposed an embargo on food imports from the European Union will cause the Republic of damages in the amount of €55 million mostly affected the dairy industry. The government has already allocated to producers and milk processing enterprises €14 million in compensation for the loss.

Last week the EC has allocated to the milk producers in the Baltic countries, which suffered from food embargoes of the Russian Federation, more than €28 million From the provided amount of €6.9 million will be spent in Estonia, €7.7 million in Latvia and €14.1 million will go to Lithuania.
