Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has imposed higher tariffs on the import of 350 species of foreign products, the Associated Press reported on 2 December.

According to the presidential decree published December 1, an increase in import duties on 40-60% for imported food products, perfumes, furniture and other products.

The government hopes that these "protectionist" measures will ensure the growth of production and agriculture in the country, whose economy greatly suffered after five years of "coups and contrarevolution" since the Arab spring of 2011-2012.
