By the end of 2016, the import of cheese (cheese-like) products may increase up to 96.0 thousand tons, which is 3.4% more than was imported in 2015.
The main supplier of cheese/cheese-like products in Russia to 2016 is the Republic of Belarus (2.5% of import in 2013 of 14.7% in 2014, 45,4% – in 2015, 68% in the first 11 months of 2016).
In 2014 leader in terms of supply was Ukraine, however, 14 Oct 2014 Rospotrebnadzor imposed a ban on imports from Ukraine to Russia of all cheese products according to HS codes 1901 and 2106 in connection with the discrepancy of Ukrainian cheese products requirements for labeling, and legislation in the field of sanitary-epidemiological human well-being.
As a result, today the Russian market of cheese products falls predominantly from the Republic of Belarus, to expand the supply in comparison with 2013 almost 40 times, which may be associated with the re-export of cheese-like products from other countries under the guise of their own production.
Moreover, Russia continues to do the cheesy/cheese-like products from the so-called "sanctions" countries: in the first 11 months of the year 2016, the share of cheese-like products imported from such countries amounted to 27% (23.4 thousand t for the sum of USD 55.5 million).
