"According to preliminary estimates, the gross yield of buckwheat is expected to reach 1 million tons", – said representatives of the Ministry. The yield of this crop in 2016, according to Rosstat, amounted to 1.2 million tons.

The Ministry of agriculture also noted that this year the price of buckwheat in Russia on average decreased constantly. In may compared to January, they fell by 37.3% to 16.22 rubles per kilogram.

In 2017, this cereal crop was sown on an area of 1.4 million hectares (in 2016 996,9 thousand hectares), which exceeds the figures for the last five years.

The proportion of late-sown spring crops, including buckwheat, in the structure of sown areas was increased because field work was postponed to later date due to adverse weather conditions during planting in the spring of 2017.
