In 2018/19 MG India can stop importing wheat on the background of the expected growth of the domestic grain production to a record level, and substantially increase its reserves.

As specified, due to the record crop of last season, government wheat stocks in India as at 1 November were estimated at 23.9 million tonnes, which is 27% higher than last year.

It is also noted that according to analysts, the acreage under wheat of the new crop, sowing of which in India is currently underway, will increase by approximately 5% in comparison with last year's level. The expansion of cultivated areas, in turn, will contribute to the increase in the minimum purchase price of wheat from farmers, which in October increased by 6.8% to $7,33 per bushel.

Also will play its role and increase import duties on wheat in India, which in November was increased in 2 times – up to 20%.
