This year the deer slaughter increased by 3.5 thousand heads in comparison with the previous year - up to 16.5 thousand heads, so residents of the region received two times more meat than last year - 604 tons of venison.

"We are faced with the important task of providing local residents with their own products and at the same time stable increasing total population of reindeer. To address these issues the government of Chukotka pays special attention, including taking into account entered Russia the response of economic sanctions against countries of the West, "said Kopin.

According to him, the regional authorities are considering the possibility of resumption of practice for the extraction of wild reindeer. Reindeer herding, as well as a number of enterprises Bilibino district has already stated about the readiness to produce in the winter, the Governor said.
