The European Commission (EC) has allocated more than €28 million milk producers in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, which has suffered from food embargoes of the Russian Federation. This is stated in the statement of the EC, issued on Wednesday in Brussels.
The EC stresses that "this new aid package provided by the European Commission in connection with the Russian embargo, is the latest to European farmers".
Provided the amount of €6.9 million will be spent in Estonia, €7.7 million in Latvia and €14.1 million will go to Lithuania.
"When we looked at the proportion of national production, previously exported to Russia and the fall of prices since the crisis began, we saw that the dairy sector in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia was particularly hard hit by the Russian embargo. I am therefore pleased that the European Commission in the form of a financial package supports each of the three countries. This will help dairy farmers, which in the Russian ban has faced liquidity problems in exceptional circumstances", said the European Commissioner for agriculture and rural development Phil Hogan.
