According to the agriculture Ministry, citing data from the Federal customs service, as of 23 April, the import of poultry meat this year increased by 12.9% compared to the same period of 2016 to 25.8 thousand tons, pork – by 15.2% to 74.8 thousand tons Imports of beef at the beginning of last month was below the average level in 2016, but by 23 April it exceeded by 6% to 62,4 thousand tons.

The resumption of import growth in early 2017 led including the strengthening of the ruble, says the Chairman of the Executive Committee of National meat Association Sergey Yushin.

"One of the reasons may be quite attractive the price of pork in the Russian market. Prices in the wholesale segment are now not low and above those that were in the period of 2016 — on average, today they account for about 160 Euro/kg on the side", — said S. Yushin.

At the same time, he said, the increase in supply from abroad will not have a negative impact on the Russian market. "First, it is the growth of the overall low volumes of import and in a relatively short period of time, therefore, to draw conclusions about the results of a year earlier. In the second place, continues to grow and production of poultry meat in Russia, the pork dynamics are still high. Therefore, the increase of import only says that meat consumption is stable: in expansion of Russian production and increase in imports, the domestic price collapsed", — the expert added.
