Imports of beef and veal to Russia in the period from January to may this year decreased by 18.6% compared to the same period in 2016, reports "Izvestia", citing data from the Ministry of agriculture.

According to experts, the decline in demand for imported beef is due to the rise in price made during the first five months of year to 22%. So, according to the Agency, the average price of imported beef in January–may 2017 amounted to more than $3.7 million per ton. This is almost 22% more than in 2016.

Amid decline in supply of foreign meat increases domestic production. In particular, according to the INSTITUTION "Spetzstroy in agriculture", in January–may 2017 the volume of industrial production of beef (excluding offal) amounted to 60.4 thousand tons, which is 2.4% more than the corresponding period last year.
